Esprit2 500 not always firing

I have a pair of the above units.  One is fine, the other fires about 50% of the time when triggered, either by the built-in slave cell or the test button (I have no lead to test the reliability of triggering by socket).

Could this be a flash tube that's gone or should I get it serviced?

Lots of possibilities, an aging tube is also conceiveable. I'd ask
www.ehffs.co.uk to check the unit.
